About Me
"Little girls with dreams become women with vision."
Looking back at my life, I can see so many times when I could have given up and done something easier, but I never did. It's not who I am.
I'm an engineer. I'm an equestrian. I'm passionate, driven, overachieving. I am not a quitter.
My name is Kelly Lawrence, and I'm currently a fourth-year mechanical engineering student at University of Cincinnati. I did my first two co-op rotation in the product development department of Lake Shore Cryotronics, a company that designs and manufactures temperature and magnetic sensors for research purposes. I had the opportunity to lead a project and learn a lot more materials science than I ever thought that I would need, and I returned remotely in the following summer following lifting of coronavirus restrictions, doing some Solidworks redesign and 3D printing of components. My last three co-ops were at Kinetic Vision in Cincinnati, a consulting firm, where I worked in modeling and simulation, doing work with different finite element analysis software for a wide variety of client projects. I'm from Columbus, Ohio, and I graduated from Olentangy Orange High School with honors and as a National Merit Scholar, so that a banner with my senior yearbook picture can hang in our cafeteria for the next ten years. Luckily, I came to Cincinnati so that I never have to see it, and to take advantage of the College of Engineering and Applied Science's top-ranked co-op program and the unique experience-based University Honors Program. On top of my bachelor's degree, I am also participating in UC's Accelerated Engineering Degree program, pursuing my Master's of Business Administration, because I know that I want to be a leader in my field, whatever it may be. I have a love for learning and applying new information and ideas in creative ways, so the combination of the programs was the best possible situation for me. My current resume can be found here.
In case a full course load and extracurricular activities weren't enough, I'm also an equestrian competing in the sport of eventing, the "equestrian triathlon" of dressage, show jumping, and cross country, with my horse, Reno, who always manages to look better than me in pictures (unless he's scared of the camera tripod. It happens). Our escapades together have included working our way up through the levels of eventing, placing in the ribbons at the American Eventing Championship, and photobombing an Olympian. At some point he is sure to be included in an honors experience somehow, which will give me an excuse to put more pictures of him on this website.
My life experiences have taught me to work. I'm not afraid to put in long hours or get my hands dirty. In fact, I thrive on the opportunity to do exactly that. I can't wait to take full advantage of all the honors program has to offer, from seminars to study tours to self-designed experiences; I want a piece of all of it. Coupling that with CEAS's program, I know that my five years at University of Cincinnati are going to be some of the most enriching ones of my life.
